2 weeks ago my husband came down with the flu. He went to the doctor since the swine flu checklists on the government websites said to do so immediately if there is a child under 5 in the home. We have a 2.5 year old daughter and I am also Pregnant. He went to the doctor and tested positive for Influenza A, and assumed to have swine flu, but they don't actually bother to test for it most of the time because they have to send it out to a lab and it takes a while to get the results. They told my husband it didn't really matter if it was Swine flu or not because treatment was the same for either type of flu, to take Tamiflu. My husband is a typical guy who "doesn't need that crap" and informed them he was only there because of his wife and daughter. They sent him home with 2 prescriptions for Tamiflu for us to take as well as a prescription for antibiotics for himself to take to prevent pneumonia.
I had no desire to take Tamiflu or give it to my daughter. Tamiflu is a class C drug so if you are pregnant, why take a class C drug, when it has never before been prescribed to pregnant women before the current "Pandemic" if I'm not even sick? I'll admit I was really stressed out because when I looked up information about it, I was basically reading that the CDC and government now recommends pregnant women to take Tamiflu if they even think they may have been in contact with someone infected with H1N1. The information also was indicating that it is safer to take Tamiflu than to risk getting a fever during pregnancy. Although we do know that Tamiflu can cause harm to the fetus, we don't know exactly what it will do, whereas we already know a fever can be harmful to the fetus so it's safer to take Tamiflu. This didn't make sense to me and I felt like I was damned if I do and damned if I don't.
In the mean time, My daughter and I doubled up on our daily intake of Vit C and were taking probiotics. We also started taking Oscillococinum, which our pediatrician recommended for flu prevention and for fighting off the flu if you get it. We only were taking 1/4 of a tube (or about a capful) once or twice a day for prevention. We were diligent about hand washing and I was using antibacterial wipes all over the places to try and eliminate my husbands germs that he had been sneezing and coughing everywhere.
I'll admit I was very stressed out. When you are pregnant you can't be careful enough, especially about what you put in your body. I was so stressed out over getting this Tamiflu prescription filled when every instinct told me not to take it. But I didn't want to be ignorant and then get sick and cause harm to my baby that way. I called my dad who is an MD and started expressing my concerns with him about taking Tamiflu verses the risk of getting the Flu from my husband and getting a fever. My dad looked up Tamiflu in his directory on drug information and explained to me that Tamiflu is a Class C drug, because in animal testing, there were harmful effects on the fetus and up till now there have been no testing on pregnant women. He doesn't work with pregnant women so he asked again if I was sure this was what they were wanting me to take. I told him, yes! It's what the CDC recommends so now apparently doctors are okay prescribing it to pregnant women. He then told me that he would not prescribe it to me if he were my doctor and that in the case I did start to come down with a fever, I should do what people have done for many years...take Tylenol which is safe to take during pregnancy. Wow, how obvious. This whole time I was stressed out about the possibility of a fever and the scare over the swine flu and common sense went out the window! (as it often does during mass hysteria!) I knew Tylenol brings down a fever, but in this case I totally forgot. My mom who is very into essential oils also claims that rubbing peppermint on your feet can bring down a fever, however I have yet to try it.
Also, my dad also informed me that if I did get a fever, it would have to get above 103-104 to be harmful to the baby. My husband had a fever for 2 days during his flu and it never got higher than 102.1. Also, I've had the regular flu before a long time ago, and after taking care of my husband, I have to say I think his case of swine flu was the mildest case of the flu I have ever witnessed. He was coughing, sneezing, had chills and needed a lot of rest, he also had a mild fever. But he never even vomited or had Diarrhea. He was only really sick like that for 2 days, the 3rd day he was up and feeling mostly normal. It took about 5 days to feel totally back to normal and there was a bit of a lingering cough, but in reality, it was nothing! Not much worse than a common head cold!
So now this makes me angry, all this hype, the WHO at pandemic level 6, motions for mandatory vaccination, and all the pressure to get a vaccine everywhere you go! I was already wary about taking it initially and the more things progress and the more research I do for myself, not relying on mainstream media, the more opposed to the whole swine flu scare and the treatments made to profit from it I become. I'm not going to allow my child or my unborn child to be used as guinea pigs. With my first pregnancy I was pregnant during flu season and worked with elementary schools and I don't remember flu shots ever coming up as being a big deal, I don't think my Obstetrician at the time even suggested it. Not this year, suddenly it's like every pregnant woman and while MUST receive both the swine flu vaccine and the regular flu shot.
Did you also know that the vaccine makers applied for the patent on the swine flu vaccine before the swine flu pandemic even existed?
